STEM-CLEAR will pilot initiatives for building STEM-identity cohorts in the STEM-X disciplines, a key element to student success. These initiatives will include counter-life stories, industry mentoring and student professional development, and peer-learning networks.
STEM-X Student Support
Support Overview

Counter-Life Stories
With the ACCEYSS Research Group, Counter-Life Stories afford the opportunity for students to tell stories and share experiences. STEM-CLEAR will initiate a program that provides STEM-X students a forum to share their unique STEM educational experiences. This will include one-on-one, in-depth interviews with STEM-X majors to obtain rich descriptions about their unique educational trajectories.
Mentoring and Professional Development
Mentoring has been demonstrated to be an important aspect in developing STEM identities and improving retention and persistence. Mentorship activities include seminars, capstone research presentations, partnerships with industry mentors, professional evaluation of student work, and paired and small group activities with experiential learning.

Peer-Learning Networks
Peer mentoring can promote identity value and provide the support to develop self-efficacy. The group will have scheduled in-person meetings facilitated by a faculty member. The meetings will provide a forum for students to share their experiences with the learning pathways and seek support from their peers. Additionally, students will be given the following opportunities for peer networking.
