To ensure the success of this project, we recognize that it is necessary to support faculty as an important driver of the social context of courses. Supportive learning environments and positive faculty relationships are known to support student STEM identity and self-efficacy, both of which are pivotal for student success.
Faculty Training
Training Overview

In collaboration with the Texas State Faculty Development Office, we will implement a professional development model engaging STEM faculty in inclusive and responsive teaching workshops. Team members with expertise in inclusive pedagogies will facilitate workshops for all faculty involved in the design and implementation of project coursework. The primary goals will be to equip faculty to design and implement teaching strategies that support asset-based, equitable, inclusive STEM learning environments and to establish a faculty community of practice around high-quality inclusive pedagogies. Faculty involved in curriculum development will create foundational design principles for inclusive pedagogies that they will implement in their design work, while those involved in instructional implementation will develop personal strategies and goals for establishing a supportive classroom learning environment. The workshop facilitators will provide follow-up consultations with faculty design teams and conduct course observations to support instructors in implementing their personal goals and supporting their professional growth in inclusive pedagogies. These post-workshop activities as well as ongoing faculty surveys will be used to refine the design of workshops.
